It feels like being healthy has become complicated lately. We are constantly being bombarded with the latest health trends, gadgets, cleanses and products. While those things can be great, I want to remind you that you do not need the latest gadget, or have to make massive overhauls of your current lifestyle to see changes.
For lasting change, I encourage you to focus on these 7 health foundations. These are tried and true ways that have been shown to improve your overall health and wellbeing if you focus on them with intention, purpose and consistency. Let’s dive in…
- Sleep: 7 hours of sleep is the minimum amount adults need to be recharged mentally and physically. Prioritizing sleep is key to help your body repair and heal. I encourage you to limit screen time at least 30 minutes before bed, and to create an evening wind down routine to help your body relax and prepare for sleep.
- Movement: Pick an activity you enjoy that elevates your heart rate for at least 30 minutes per day, 3 to 5 days per week, and schedule it in to your day! Finding joy in your movement and planning it in to your day is a game changer.
- Nourishment: Eating mostly whole foods helps reduce body inflammation and blood sugar spikes. Simply eating more home cooked meals can make a big impact on your health.
- Hydration: Dehydration is a major stressor on the body. Aim to drink at least 64oz daily as a baseline. I recommend adding electrolytes to your water with LMNT or sole water to give you deep, cellular hydration.
- Mindfulness: Guard what goes in to your mind with what you listen to, watch and read. If stress and chaos is going in to your body and mind, stress and chaos is going to come out. Instead of doom scrolling, or filling your time with things that disrupt your peace – shift that focus to self care to fill your cup!
- Social Connection: Community is essential for your health, wellbeing, and overall stress reduction. Find people that share similar values as you and commit to meeting or connecting regularly.
- Nervous System Regulation: When your nervous system is balanced, regulated and functioning at its best, your body will be able to overcome the stresses of life with ease. Chiropractic care puts positive input into your nervous system, allowing your body to melt away tension and feel revived!
Now take a moment for self-reflection: What areas are you doing well? What areas need some work?
I recommend that you pick ONE area that you feel you need the most support in and create a routine that will help you incorporate that into your day. Stick to that one focus until you have developed consistency and ease with it. Once you reach that point of ease, pick the next area you want to bring attention to. By continuing to incorporate these foundations in to your life, you will notice improved health, vitality, and overall wellbeing!
